CVSS v3.1 |
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.18.0, a crafted PDF containing indirect-object identifiers or generation-number tokens that continue for a long time without whitespace can cause pypdf/_reader.py and pypdf/generic/_base.py to scan excessive input through read_until_whitespace, resulting in long runtimes and application unavailability. This issue is fixed in version 6.18.0.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.19.0, a crafted PDF containing many embedded files can cause the dictionary-based attachments API in pypdf/_doc_common.py to reparse the full attachment list for each content lookup, producing repeated work and long runtimes when an application accesses the embedded-file mapping. This issue is fixed in version 6.19.0.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.12.0, an attacker who uses this vulnerability can craft a PDF which leads to long runtimes. This requires cross-reference streams with /W [0 0 0] values and large /Size values. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.12.0.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.19.0, a crafted PDF with form field values can cause pypdf/generic/_appearance_stream.py appearance-stream generation to repeat invariant selection-data work inside a loop when an application updates fields with flattening enabled, resulting in excessive runtimes and application unavailability. This issue is fixed in version 6.19.0.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.21.3, pypdf can take excessive time to retrieve page labels from a crafted PDF containing a flat page-label number tree with many ranges. The page_labels property resolves each page independently and repeatedly scans the same /Nums array from the beginning, causing work to grow with both the page count and the number of label ranges. This issue is fixed in version 6.21.3.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Versions prior to 6.9.2 have a vulnerability in which an attacker can craft a PDF which leads to an infinite loop. This requires reading a file in non-strict mode. This has been fixed in pypdf 6.9.2. If users cannot upgrade yet, consider applying the changes from the patch manually.
pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.14.2, an attacker can craft a PDF with a page content stream containing a not terminated inline image that uses the ASCII85 or ASCIIHex filters, causing an infinite loop during parsing such as when extracting page text. This issue is fixed in version 6.14.2.
minimatch is a minimal matching utility for converting glob expressions into JavaScript RegExp objects. Prior to 11.0.1, src/index.ts implements firstPhasePreProcess() so that, at optimizationLevel 2 or higher, it repeatedly expands attacker-controlled **/.. pattern segments inside a fixpoint loop, allowing generated globParts entries to be processed and expanded again. secondPhasePreProcess() then compares the expanded entries pairwise, so a short malicious glob can cause excessive CPU and memory consumption during pattern compilation. This issue is fixed in version 11.0.1.
pyasn1 is a generic ASN.1 library for Python. Prior to 0.6.5, binary REAL decoding builds a large mantissa one octet at a time by shifting a growing integer and slicing the remaining byte string. Attacker-controlled ASN.1 includes a binary-encoded REAL with a large mantissa and reaches BER, CER, or DER decode(), with or without a schema containing REAL. RealPayloadDecoder.valueDecoder repeatedly performs a left shift, OR, and suffix copy for every mantissa octet, making decode time quadratic in mantissa length. A comparatively small REAL value can hold a decoding worker on one CPU core for seconds or longer and cause availability loss. This issue is fixed in version 0.6.5.
joserfc is a Python library that provides an implementation of several JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) standards. Prior to 1.7.5, joserfc.jwe.decrypt_json() accepts a JWE General JSON Serialization recipients array without a count limit and calls decrypt_cek() for every entry. An unauthenticated attacker who can submit a JWE to an endpoint using an RSA key-management algorithm can choose the number of private-key decryption operations performed by one request. The verify_all_recipients option does not reduce this work because the affected loop processes every recipient before consulting that setting, allowing repeated requests to exhaust service CPU without affecting confidentiality or integrity. This issue is fixed in version 1.7.5.
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ceph: cap delegated inode count in ceph_parse_deleg_inos()
ceph_parse_deleg_inos() decodes interval sets of delegated inode numbers
from an MDS create-with-delegation reply. For each set it reads a 64-bit
start and a 64-bit len with ceph_decode_64_safe(), which only validates
that the eight bytes are present in the message, not the value, and then
loops over len while inserting entries into s_delegated_inos.
len is fully attacker controlled. A malicious or compromised MDS can send
one huge interval, many intervals in one reply, duplicate intervals, or
repeated replies that accumulate delegated inodes on the same session.
The original code bounded none of these and could spin the insert loop or
grow the xarray without limit.
Bound both dimensions with a single enforcement point. Track the number
of delegated inodes held by each MDS session in an atomic counter and
grow it only in ceph_insert_deleg_ino(), which uses atomic_add_unless()
to refuse to push the count past CEPH_MAX_DELEG_INOS. Because that helper
is the only place the counter grows, the per-session population can never
exceed the cap, so no separate per-session pre-check is needed. The
counter is decremented when async create consumes a delegated inode or
when an insert fails, incremented when a delegated inode is restored,
initialized with the session xarray, and reset when reconnect destroys
the xarray.
A per-session cap alone still lets one reply spin the insert loop on
duplicate ranges without growing the counter, so also cap the aggregate
interval length accepted from a single reply. Together these bound both
the loop trip count per reply and the xarray population across replies.
The cap is a fixed, client-chosen constant rather than a value derived
from the MDS. mds_client_prealloc_inos is a userspace MDS configuration
option; it is never sent to the kernel client on the wire, and a
server-supplied bound could not be trusted for a defensive limit in any
case. The constant is set well above that option's documented default of
1000 (a generous multiple), so legitimate refill behavior is unaffected
while the CPU and xarray memory a malformed delegation stream can consume
stays bounded.
Impact: a malicious or compromised Ceph MDS can no longer make a client
spin through an unbounded delegated-inode interval or grow one session's
delegated-inode xarray without limit. |
Python-Markdown 3.0 through 3.11.2 contains an algorithmic complexity vulnerability in inline link parsing that allows remote attackers to exhaust CPU through unmatched brackets. Attackers can submit short Markdown containing repeated [ or in src/PIL/Image.py repeatedly slices the remaining EXIF data while it begins with the six-byte Exif header. src/PIL/PngImagePlugin.py accepts an uncapped PNG eXIf chunk, so a file filled with repeated headers causes a new shrinking copy on every iteration and quadratic CPU work. The condition is reachable through Image.getexif(), Image._getexif(), and ImageOps.exif_transpose(), including common photo-upload rotation workflows. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.
OW2 ASM 3.0 before 9.11 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows attackers to exhaust CPU by supplying crafted class files processed with ClassWriter.COMPUTE_FRAMES. Attackers can craft methods that make the unbounded MethodWriter.computeAllFrames() fix point algorithm converge slowly, tying up transforming threads for unbounded time.
